Biofabrication is a disruptive multidisciplinary platform technology, requiring an understanding of diverse range of subjects including chemistry, physics, materials science, biology, medicine, mechatronics, and clinical sciences. Biofabrication methodologies are used to improve health care and quality of life by developing advanced biomedical products for tissue repair and replacement, and delivery of pharmaceutical agents by combining cells, gels, and fibers into a single construct. Using the principles of additive manufacturing, commonly known as 3-dimensional printing (3DP), and the availability of affordable equipment, it is possible to bioprint such products. When combined with other techniques such as electrospinning/airbrushing and foaming/porogen leaching we have a broader, more comprehensive scope of skills training for the biofabrication landscape. A biofabricator would be able to discuss a clinical need, assist in creating a solution, and deliver it.
